When our Harpenden client came to us in search of quartz worktops for their new kitchen, they arrived with a clear sense of how they wanted the space to feel, even if the final stone selection took some time to settle. Having seen plenty of our recent work centring around the Artemistone Arabescato Cremo quartz, they had been immediately drawn to it. Its soft, warm veining against a clean ground gives it the presence of natural marble with the practicality of an engineered surface.

The island is the centrepiece of the kitchen and was designed to be read as a single, sculptural block. We fabricated it in 30mm with an ogee edge, an iconic profile that brings real softness and a sense of craftsmanship to the piece. The weight of the edge detail catches the light beautifully.

Along the main run, we book-matched the worktops so that the veining mirrors across, carrying the pattern through in a continuous, considered way. The same book-matched approach was extended up into the upstands, along the windowsill behind the Shaws sink, and into a mitred corner wall-cladding detail that wraps the stone around the return. The worktops themselves were fabricated in 20mm with a chamfered edge, keeping the profile clean and modern in contrast to the heavier ogee on the island.

One of the standout details of this project is the open shelving fabricated in the same stone. It is supported by brass brackets, a small but deliberate contrast that warms the space.

We then completed the utility room with a window-to-worktop design, where the stone meets the underside of the window without a break.

The kitchen will also include a Miele hob and a Quooker tap.
